The Balaton Park Circuit Is Ready for MotoGP and World Superbike

The Balaton Park Circuit is prepared to welcome riders from the two premier classes of motorcycle racing. On Hungary’s newest race track, the finishing touches are complete and MotoGP teams have already tested on it. The domestic WorldSBK round will take place from July 25–27, and the MotoGP Hungarian Grand Prix from August 22–24, at the Balaton Park Circuit. The races are promoted and organized by HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Co Ltd.

MotoGP and WorldSBK represent the pinnacle of motorcycle racing—its popularity stems from speed, cutting-edge technology, fearless riders who defy physics, and thrilling races. These series draw massive, passionate global fanbases, making these race weekends significant assets for national branding and image.

For HUMDA, it was a priority to bring these two prestigious series back to our country, thereby enhancing international recognition and prestige, and expanding our sports-tourism portfolio. Just as Formula‑1 once put Hungary on the world map, the same can now hold true for MotoGP.

The races are promoted and organized by HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Plc., with the National Event Management Agency Nonprofit Plc. as co-organizer.
These details were presented by Dr. Szilvia Szondy, CEO of HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency Plc., during Thursday’s press briefing at the Balaton Park Circuit.

“The event’s positive economic and tourist impact is clear, and for young motorcycle talents, the proximity of top-tier racing can be a major motivator—while aspiring engineers may see it as a door-opening opportunity,” added Dr. Szondy Szilvia. “Regarding attendance: MotoGP naturally attracts a larger audience than WorldSBK—but ticket sales are on track proportionally. Considering domestic fans, ticket prices are among the most affordable in the region, so anyone keen to be part of this historically significant race should secure their place as soon as possible.”

The CEO also stated that HUMDA’s Hungarian Motorsport Academy has supported 29 riders and 2 teams to help them improve, reach world-class levels, and ultimately compete in top-tier series. So, beyond hosting spectacular and professionally sound races at Balaton Park Circuit, the goal is for today’s talents to soon race alongside international stars.

The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Ádám Schmidt, State Secretary for Sports at the Ministry of Human Capacities, who spoke on what the arrival of these two motorcycle races means for Hungary.

“I believe 2025 is an outstanding year for the Hungarian auto-motorsport family,” said Dr. Schmidt Ádám. “At the renewed Hungaroring, we’ll host the 40th Formula‑1 Hungarian Grand Prix, while MotoGP returns after 33 years and Superbike after 35 years. It will be a unique and inspiring experience to see the best up close. Both the infrastructure upgrades and hosting new racing series demonstrate the Hungarian Government’s long-term commitment to supporting motorsport. We want to build on our long-standing traditions and on the remarkable successes Hungarian riders have achieved in recent years across various categories worldwide.”

Adrienn Walterné Dancsó, Operations Director of Balaton Park Circuit, noted that final supplementary works are complete, making the track ready to host the world’s top motorcycle riders.

“Supplementary works at Balaton Park Circuit—required for the track to receive the FIM’s highest Grade‑A licence for motorcycle racing series—are practically complete. Run-off areas have tripled, three corners have received additional layouts, and the IT and low-voltage systems have been upgraded to cater to Superbike and MotoGP needs,” said Walterné Dancsó Adrienn.

The Balaton Park Circuit’s motorcycle layout is 4,074 metres long, featuring 10 left-hand and 7 right‑hand corners. In addition to guardrails, riders’ safety is ensured by modular Tecpro foam barriers and Alpina air‑bubble impact protection systems.

Walterné Dancsó Adrienn mentioned that the circuit has already hosted several motorcycle events in recent days. These included greater-than-expected participation by sports and medical personnel to gain practical experience. On-site observers from Superbike and the FIM were satisfied with the safety measures during the circuit’s first motorcycle event, stating they confidently look forward to the WorldSBK and MotoGP weekends in Hungary.

When speaking about motorcycle racing in Hungary today, Gábor Talmácsi—our country’s only world champion, crowned 125cc MotoGP world champion in 2007—is unavoidable. He has already tested at Balaton Park Circuit and was able to share first‑hand insights.

“Thanks to the circuit’s chicanes, it’s one of the most technical asphalt tracks in the calendar—a stop‑and‑go layout—offering many overtaking opportunities,” said Talmácsi. “A few days ago I tried it under real conditions, and it was an amazing experience—just like seeing MotoGP teams on it today. This is our track, and we should be proud—especially that after Formula‑1, both MotoGP and WorldSBK are coming to Hungary. It’s a huge achievement.”

Asked which parts of the track are best to watch the events from in person, Talmácsi explained that there’s something for everyone: whether you want to see the start and finish, the pit work, or a high-speed corner or intricate chicane.

“It will be worth attending in person; these races have a dynamic that makes it feel like racers are defying the laws of physics. They deliver a very high fan experience,” said Talmácsi, moving on to what Hungarian riders can gain from this. As a competitor from a small country, I had to fight hard—but now that races are held here, new horizons open for talent. “From a grassroots perspective, families come to the races, and kids fall in love with motorsport. For today’s emerging young riders, these events create a vision that—through hard work—can become reality.”
