Luis Figo to Be Team Captain in Budapest

UEFA has announced that one of the team captains at the Legends Tournament (Ultimate Champions Legends Tournament), which will take place on May 29 at the Papp László Sport Arena, will be former Champions League winner and Ballon d’Or recipient Luis Figo. Ahead of the Champions League final in Budapest, UEFA is organizing a number of lead-up events, one of the most highly anticipated being the Legends Tournament, where former world-class stars will take to the pitch at the Papp László Sport Arena.

The event is part of the official program of the UEFA Champions Festival leading up to the Budapest Champions League final, which will be held between May 28 and 31, 2026, in the heart of the Hungarian capital at Heroes’ Square. The festival will serve as a fitting prelude to the pinnacle event of European club football, the 2026 UEFA Champions League final, which will take place on Saturday, May 30, at the Puskás Arena.

The Legends Tournament, which has enjoyed great popularity among fans for more than a decade, will be held for the second time in its revamped format. The event organizer, UEFA, expects more than 11,000 spectators and is preparing a rich lineup of side programs, exclusive prize games, and opportunities for fans to meet the legends in person.

UEFA has also announced that one of the team captains at the four-team friendly tournament—featuring former Hungarian Champions League players—will be Luis Figo, one of the winners of the 2002 Champions League final. The Portuguese legend also participated in last year’s Legends Tournament in Munich ahead of the Champions League final, where he and his team won the competition, meaning he will arrive in Budapest as the defending champion alongside many other global stars.

The Champions Festival is organized by UEFA and the National Event Management Agency in cooperation with the Hungarian Football Federation. UEFA will soon announce the arrival of additional global stars. Tickets for the Legends Tournament are already available at UEFA.COM/Legends.
